Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I tried to make something original and stylish for christmas. I started only 3 days ago, but I’m glad I managed to finish it just before christmas:

Hopefully there won’t be too many problems viewing it. I’ve tested it on various browsers and operating systems.

This was my first Flash project in a long time, and my first Flash 9 project ever. It’s entirely written in ActionScript 3, nothing is really animated. And there’s a lot of Math.random() calls in there, so you get a slightly different scene every time you load the page. ;)

I have to admit that I made it in Windows, though. I’m going to try compile it with the Flex 2 SDK on Linux later on; it should just work. Flex Builder (which is Eclipse based) is a really nice environment, though.

Thanks to Zeuslabs for their particle system, and deconcept.com for their SWFObject script.

Kudos to those who can tell where I got the idea from. :)

X11 screensavers/-lockers

Friday 22 December, 2006 @ 13:52

I wonder how gnome-screensaver is supposed to securely lock my station when I can just switch to a different VC and kill it.

Why would I do that? Ubuntu Feisty’s gnome-screensaver is a bit broken at the moment. It hangs when I try to unlock it.

I’d like to add that Windows (possibly) gets this right. I was fiddling with GINA at some point, and noticed that Windows has multiple desktops handled by the system. Sort of like VCs, except that you can’t switch between them with alt+F* key combinations. (But I know to little too prove they’re really secure.)

I never really understood the VC concept anyways. I’d rather see that handled by an application, like screen.

By the way, three posts ago I was wishing everyone a merry christmas. It’s that time again soon. I should post more often.
