Google Earth hacking

Friday 30 September, 2005 @ 15:55

While blinging up the BeyondUnreal Google Map, someone asked me if he could import the locations into Google Earth somehow. I started looking and ended up at the KML documentation.

An hour of reading and hacking later, I ended up with a nice KML document generated from the same data as the Google Map. Awesome. :)

I messed around with the descriptions alot, but couldn’t get the avatar working so far. It’s just not loading the images, possibly because they’re not on the same site. That’d still be odd though, because I’m doing the same with the marker icons.
Another reason might be that it doesn’t support animated gifs yet.

I’m happy with the result though, it’s pretty neat seeing it zoom in on your house. Makes you want to run outside, jump and wave at a satellite you can’t even see with the naked eye. ;)
